Curtain Pole Guide | Curtain Pole Measuring Guide

Now that you've chosen the perfect pole and finials for your curtains, it's time to measure up.

To ensure that your curtains fit correctly, and also have enough space to neatly frame the window when pulled open, it's very important to take accurate curtain pole measurements.

You’ll need the following items before you begin:

  • Metal tape measure
  • Pen or pencil
  • Paper

Step 1 - Take the width measurement (X) of the window recess.

Step 2 -  Multiply measurement (Y) by two and add it to the window width measurement (X). For an average window size, we recommend allowing between 15 - 20 cm for measurement (Y). Please refer to the size guide table below for more information.

Window recess dimension (X) Please add the figure below to either side of (X)
100 cm (39”) 15 cm (6”)
180 cm (71”) 20 cm (8”)
240 cm (95”) 25 cm (10”)
360 cm (142”) 35 cm (14”)
480 cm (189”) 45 cm (18”)
600 cm (237”) 52 cm (21”)

Step 3 - The combined lengths you have calculated from Step 1 & 2 will be the required curtain pole length (not including the finials) as shown above. We supply our curtain poles in standard lengths, so if your required size differs from the lengths available, we would recommend ordering the next size up.
