Curtain Heading Information

Choosing the right curtain heading is important, as well as dictating how the curtain can be hung it also add a great deal to the overall style. Below we cover eight of the most common curtain headings from modern and minimalist to traditional and tailored.

Pencil Pleat

made to measure curtains - Pencil Pleat

Pencil Pleat Curtain Heading is the most popular curtain heading choice. Pencil Pleat can also be referred to as Tape Top or 3” Tape Curtains (the 3” refers to the depth of the heading tape used)

The heading tape has cords running through it, when these cords are pulled, the tape creates a pleating on the top of the curtain which can look like a row of pencils.

Our pencil pleat heading tape is 3” deep with 5 hook pockets for positioning the curtain track hooks, which gives a good amount of flexibility to achieve the perfect curtain drop.

We can gather the pencil pleating on your curtains so they are ready to hook and hang when they arrive – we recommend selecting this service – it can be quite tricky to achieve a neat pencil pleat – our service ensures a neat and well presented pencil pleat gathered to the perfect size for your track or pole!

Pencil Pleat curtains are suitable to hang from both tracks and poles

Triple Pinch Pleat and Double Pinch Pleat

made to measure curtains - Triple Pinch Pleat

Pinch Pleat is a classic decorative curtain heading style, the ‘pinches’ give a neat, uniform and tailored finish to the curtain.

We offer both double pinch pleat and triple pinch pleat options, the double pinch offers a more modern look, whilst the triple pinch pleat reflects a more classic style of curtain.

Pinch Pleat curtains work best when hung from a pole rather than on a track, they will stack back very neatly when open in a relatively small space.

Our pinch pleats are all 12.5cm deep and hand finished to ensure the neatest look.

There is no tape across the back of the curtain (like pencil pleat) we use a stiffening buckram within the curtain heading to form crisp pinch pleats.

Metal hooks are inserted into the pleats at the back of the curtain which allows you to hang the curtains when they arrive. The metal hooks are hooked through the small eyelet on the bottom of the curtain pole rings or the small hole on the bottom of curtain track gliders.

The metal hooks can be adjusted to raise or lower the curtain, therefor there is some flexibility to achieve the perfect curtain drop.

The width of pinch pleat curtains are made specifically for the track/pole length given to us, the width cannot be adjusted.

Eyelet

made to measure curtains - Eyelet

Eyelet curtain heading is also often referred to as ring top. Eyelet curtains offer a modern look with a simple uniform wave style drape.

Eyelet curtains are a very popular choice, always hung from a pole and we offer a range of eyelet colour to best suit your pole colour or fabric choice.

An advantage of eyelet curtains is they are very easy to hang and very easy to open and close; always looking neat and uniform.

We offer 2 sizes of eyelets, the most popular would be 40mm (internal diameter) which is the same size as eyelets found in ready made curtains, these eyelets would be suitable for poles of up to 32mm in diameter. Our larger eyelet is 50mm which would be suitable for poles larger than 32mm diameter and up 42mm diameter.

We also have the facility to provide 60mm eyelets – these would be be suitable for specialist bespoke poles up to 52mm diameter.

Tab Top

Tab Top curtains can also be called loop top curtains, they are a simple option and often popular in children’s bedrooms. The Tab Tops are made from the same fabric as the curtain, but we can also make them from a contrasting fabric, just get in touch to discuss further.

The Tab Tops are 10cm in depth therefore will accommodate any size of curtain pole (Tab top cannot be hung from a curtain track).

Wave

made to measure curtains - Wave Pleat

Wave Curtain heading is the newest heading to be introduced, it creates a very neat stylish and continuous wave effect curtain which looks perfect on both open and closed curtains.

Wave curtains require a specific track configured to the wave style, in order for the finished appearance to work how it is designed. The Tracks are best suited to be ceiling fixed, but can be wall mounted too.

The finished product tends to look similar to the drape of an eyelet curtain, but the curtain hangs directly below the track and always forms perfect ‘waves’.

The wave style stacks back very neatly when the curtains are open and would suit a very modern, minimalist or contemporary interior.

Wave works very well with sheer fabrics and light weight fabrics – we would not recommend the wave heading style with a heavy weight fabric, if you are unsure of your choice of fabric being suitable for wave, just get in touch for advise.

We do insert the hooks into the heading tape of wave curtains, the hooks need to be specifically placed to ensure the wave spacing, therefore your wave heading curtains will be ready to hang when they arrive.
